Nadiya Hussain has described her important new book, Rooza: a Journey through Islamic Culture as ‘a little piece of her heart’. Join her along with author, journalist and TV presenter Candice Brathwaite as they talk about the impetus behind Nadiya’s book – a journey through Islamic cuisine inspired by Ramadhan and Eid – and about food, culture and family, and the ways in which these connect to questions of community and belonging.

About the speakers

Nadiya Hussain MBE is an award winning presenter and author. Over the last ten years, she has presented numerous cookery shows including Nadiya's Cook Once, Eat Twice, Nadiya's Simple Spices, Nadiya's Everyday Baking and Nadiya's Fast Flavours. Nadiya has also presented Nadiya: Anxiety & Me, an in-depth look at how she and others live with anxiety and panic disorder. Nadiya’s latest book Rooza, is a culinary tribute to Ramadhan and Eid, which shines a light on the traditions and incredible variety of dishes from across the Islamic world. Nadiya makes regular appearances at cookery events throughout the UK and abroad, including TheGood Food Show and many more, and has featured in the BBC’s 100 Most Influential Women list. She also features regularly in the media including The Times and BBC Good Food Magazine.

Candice Brathwaite is a author, journalist, podcaster, speaker, presenter and two-time Sunday Times best-seller. Widely recognised for her critically acclaimed book, I Am Not Your Baby Mother, Candice passionately addresses the unique experiences of Black British mothers. Her latest book, Manifest(o) was released in September 2024, becoming an instant Sunday Times Best-seller. Candice's advocacy extends beyond literature and she actively engages in discussions and panels on topics such as race, parenting, and societal inclusivity. Through her writing and public presence, Candice continues to contribute to important dialogues, challenge norms, and promote positive change in the realm of diversity and representation. Her holistic and exuberant online content which spans from heartfelt wisdom to her highly anticipated fashion videos has gained her a dedicated audience of 320k+ Instagram followers and 376k+ on TikTok.

Tickets may be booked to attend in person, or to watch on our platform either live or during the next 7 days on catch up.
