About Tech Bros, Proud Boys and Christian Dads

A group of white men, mostly with beards and tattoos, are gathered round motorcycles holding a banner which reads "All Aboard The Trump Train". The Capitol building, a neo-classical white domed building in Washington D.C., can be seen in the background.

A key feature of Donald Trump’s second administration is its relationship to very particular forms of masculinity. Trump 2.0’s political agenda is actively pursuing the reassertion of defiantly ‘traditional’ and patriarchal conceptions of the family, gender and sex. This political agenda seems to be underpinned by a political culture that is very 'male', with currents of American masculinity connected to digital technology, Evangelical Christianity and white nationalism all finding space in Trump's ideological coalition. Women are certainly vital to MAGA government and its political success – indeed, Trump has appointed more women to the Cabinet and Cabinet-level positions than Obama ever did. But is there something nonetheless revealing about looking at Trump through this gendered lens?
