About History of Medicine Study and Discovery Day

Delve deeper into source material with students studying history of medicine themes by joining us for a History of Medicine Study and Discovery Day in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians.

Inspired by our major exhibition Unearthed: The Power of Gardening, students will explore the role of plants in the history of medicine.

The day will include exhibition visits with spotlight talks, a hands-on gardener led workshop and the chance to handle archival material from the Royal College of Physicians.

  • Learning objectives:
    • Learners will explore: traditional and new methods of treatments and treating disease; the training and status of surgeons and physicians; and medieval and plant-based medicine
    • Learners will evaluate sources and handle historical documents from the Royal College of Physicians’ collection
    • Learners will discuss the use of herbs and plants in traditional and modern medicine through a hands-on experience

  • Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes (including lunch break)
