About Football Fandom in Academia

A selection of football fanzines, including Marching Altogether

Inspired by the Voice of the Fans, co-produced by us and Leeds Libraries, Football Fandom in Academia brings together scholars whose research interests focus on issues in football fan culture.

Participants include Professor Richard Haynes, author of The Football Imagination: The Rise of Football Fanzine Culture, together with current PhD students Cameron Huggett (British Library/Teesside University) and Aurélien Gerard (Sorbonne University).

Our speakers will focus on the role of fanzines in combating prejudice and discrimination, including the influence of titles such as Marching Altogether – an important Leeds United fanzine of the 1980s.

Voice of the Fans explores over 60 years of fan-made media from our and Leeds Libraries' collections that has defined the beautiful game.
