About the speakers
Lui Sit was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Australia and now lives in London with her family and moody cat. Land of the Last Wildcat (illustrated throughout by David Dean) is Lui's debut and was selected Waterstones Children's Book of the Month for May. Lui has also written a cosy crime mystery book for younger middle grade, The Lucky House Detective Agency (writing as Scarlett Li). She is happiest in the sea, a forest or any library.
Candy Gourlay was born in the Philippines, grew up under a dictatorship and met her husband during a revolution. Candy's stories have been nominated for prizes such as the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Prize. Booktrust selected her first novel Tall Story as one of the 100 Best Books of the Last 100 Years. Candy loves dogs, making comics and gardening, in that order.
