A day of creativity inspired by our free family exhibition, Story Explorers: A journey through imaginary worlds.

About Family Festival: Story Explorers

Join in with creative workshops all around the Library, with something for families with children aged 2–9, but children of all ages welcome.

The full programme will be announced here soon, but you can expect to:

  • enjoy enchanting stories and lively songs with Chickenshed theatre company
  • feel the music and move your body with The Place.
  • join author and illustrator Yuval Zommer for an interactive journey through his book, The Wild
  • create a live rainforest soundtrack with Enchanted Cinema, using instruments, hands, and voice
  • adventure through magical moon myths with storyteller Olivia Armstrong
  • join Wendy Shearer to explore the wondrous oceanic stories of Mami Wata, the water spirit from African and Afro-Caribbean mythology
  • create your own adventure zine with artist Sadie St. Hilaire from The Big Family Press
  • make a collaborative outer space soundscape with sound artist Robin the Fog
  • join author and illustrator Leigh Hodgkinson (Martha Maps It Out) in a fun map-making workshop
  • get messy with the Garden Museum and experience hands-on planting on the Piazza and build 3D paper plant palaces with Royal Institute of British Architects. These activities are both inspired by our Unearthed: The Power of Gardening exhibition, building on the themes of adventuring outside and the power of stories
  • and lastly, our sensory rooms and pop-up book area with tactile and braille editions.
