This special event is hosted by Classic Album Sundays, the world’s most popular album listening event. Melanie C is a much-loved British pop icon and member of the era-defining 90s girl group the Spice Girls: she has inspired a whole generation with her craft and sold over 100 million records world-wide. Not only is she is Album Champion for this year's National Album Day, celebrating artist icons, she released her ninth studio album, Sweat, earlier this year, her most euphoric record to date, and is midway through a world headline tour.

Melanie talks to DJ and Classic Album Sundays founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy about her astonishing career and music, with playback of tracks from the albums that have inspired her along the way and soundtracked her life.

Classic Album Sundays is a global listening event and content platform that tells the stories behind our favourite albums. It was founded in 2010 by DJ, radio host, curator and audiophile Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy. She was mentored by David Mancuso at his seminal Loft parties in New York City and as one of his most trusted collaborators helped set up The Loft in London. She presents the weekly Mixcloud radio show Balearic Breakfast and has hosted shows for BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 4. As a producer she has remixed The Cure, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Chaka Khan and more.

About National Album Day

National Album Day is an annual celebration of an artform beloved of fans and of the artists who share their personal stories through it. Organised jointly by ERA and the BPI and presented with the support of BBC Radio 2, this year's National Album Day returns on Saturday 17 October with this theme of music ‘Icons’ - the most legendary artists and recordings. The day, which is supported by artist Album Champions, encourages album discovery and listening, especially among an engaged, younger audience, and it reinforces the enduring importance of the format at the heart of today’s diverse music ecosystem. National Album Day welcomes the backing of Official Supporters – Cherry Red Records, DP World, Official Charts, PPL, Proper, and Trapeze. Their valued commitment comes alongside that of the UK’s record labels, who will release new or reissue iconic albums exclusively for the day, the music retail community – in the high street and online, album platforms led by Classic Album Sundays, and the wider music industry.

Venue and bar opening times

This event will take place in the British Library Knowledge Centre and is also available to watch online. Tickets may be booked to attend in person, or to watch online.

Concessions

There are a range of concessions available. These include discounts for British Library Members, Young Persons (16 – 25s), and visitors on Universal/Pension Credit and free entry for carers.
